If there’s one thing I know that I refuse to leave the house without, it’s lip balm. Lip balm, lip mask, lip gloss. I’m the friend you can always count on to have something.
I’d be lying if I told you I’ve never gone back to my house to grab it after leaving it behind. I cannot tell you how many lip balms and lip masks I’ve bought simply because they looked cute or aesthetic or smelled nice. I’ve tested A LOT.
I keep at least 2 on me at all times because they have so many different qualities about them. Some lip mask are better for hydration and some lip masks are better for retaining the moisture. And some are good at both but that doesn’t happen too often.
But if there’s anything learned in my lip balm / lip mask research is that keeping things simple and clean is usually the best way to go. Ingredients are king and reading them is queen. Too many companies put good ingredients in their lip balms while also including chemicals that will ultimately dry your lips more than they were before you starting using them.
So if you’re looking for the most hydrating and moisture retaining lip balms and lip masks that will leave your lips feeling healthy and happy, here are some great options to try.
This post is all about the best lip balms and masks.
The Best Clean Lip Balms and Masks ( in no particular order)
1. Ilia lip wrap reviving balm
This lip balm is what I call small and mighty! It’s non sticky and has lots of shine to it so I love to use it instead of lip gloss. I use it every day and it’s earned a permanent place in my bag.

2. Ilia lip mask
Surprisingly this one has been out for a couple of years and it’s no where near as popular as it should be. Ilia is such a well know brand and this lip mask has done nothing but great things for my dry lips. It has a slight herbal scent that I find relaxing and I often find myself looking for reasons to use it more.

3. Summer Fridays lip balm
If you don’t know anything about Summer Fridays lip balm let me be the first to tell you that this balm has a serious cult following. And for good reason. This is a thick occlusive lip balm that keeps your lips from drying out after putting it on. Did I mention they smell like delicious cake batter.

4. Fresh sugar advanced therapy lip treatment (not vegan)
Before I discovered Ilia this was my holy grail for years! I love the soft citrusy smell of this. And it weren’t for me developing a beeswax allergy I would still be using this balm.

5. Fresh sugar hydrating balm
Fresh makes such good products! If you’re a lover of flavored and smell good lip balm then you should definitely try this. They also have mango and coconut and many other seasonal scents and flavors.

6. Lanolips 101 ointment (not vegan)
The first time I heard about Lanolips 101 ointment was in a YouTube video in 2016 and it changed my life. Of course, it’s not vegan seeing that it’s made with 100% lanolin. But if that doesn’t bother you then you’re in for a treat. Not only does it keep my lips moisturized but my hands and anywhere else my skin is in the drier side.

7. Kosasport LipFuel Balm (not vegan)
Kosasport lipfuel is a dream! I can be pretty picky about balms depending on what I need in the moment. But more often than not this one covers all the bases, it’s hydrating, it’s in a cool flat stick form that easily blends into my pocket, and it’s tinted! And the colors are so pigmented it’s like a moisturizing lip stick.

8. Rhode peptide lip treatment
This lip balm sells out so fast it’s hard to get your hands on one. I blame TikTok and instagram for that. But that’s a good thing. That’s how you know it’s a gem. So many people swear by Rhodes so a big thanks to Hailey. Ember from dry lips everywhere.

9. Henne Organics (not vegan)
Henne orgánicas is luxury in a jar. With all natural ingredients in this moisture rich balm no wonder it’s an up and coming favorite by many.
