How to Declutter Your Phone Screen for More Productivity

I always take pride in how my phone looks when I open it. And not because I’m addicted to it. But because I feel like it’s both an extension of my personality and it’s the most important productivity tool that I have.
It’s my planner. My alarm clock. My calendar.
I use it to socialize with friends. Play games read books. Almost everything.
So it really slows me down and messes with my sense of productivity when my phone gets cluttered with apps that I never use. Or apps that I do use but can’t find. Oh and let’s not forget the unnecessary notifications.
Having my phone screen clean and organized not only makes it look better but it also gives me peace of mind. That small bit of clarity allows me to focus on the things I need and nothing I don’t.
So if you’re looking for that same peace of mind when you open up your phone then let’s get into the steps for how I declutter my phone and how you can too.

Clear Some Space
This one might be obvious but it’s important. There’s no need to hold on to apps that you never use. I’m talking apps that you downloaded and forgot about, or only used once or twice. Take some time to clear out space by going through each app and figuring out which ones you should keep or toss. And you don’t have to limit it to just apps. You can delete old photos that you have no need for and old messages too.
Organize and Optimize
There are so many different ways to organize your phone and I feel like I’ve tried them all. You could organize your apps by color. You could put them in folders based on what you use them for and label them accordingly. Regardless of how you choose the organize them, if you want to be as productive as possible, I recommend putting your most used and most productive apps on the front page. That way you don’t have to go searching for them. Even if your apps are organized into group folders, you can still put the most important apps at the front of the folder. Or take the most important apps out of the folder and put it next to it instead.
My favorite way to organize my apps is to put my most used apps on the front screen, along with helpful widgets and leave the rest of them in my app drawer/menu. I also put apps that I should be using more often on the front page as well where I can see them.
Make it Pretty Like You
This is the fun part. Choose a wallpaper that fits your personality. I love to look for new wallpapers for my phone on Pinterest. Even better, I sometimes create my own using Canva. All you have to do is sign up for free and then create a design that will fit on your phone screen. I love using Canva because all of my changes save automatically so I can always go back and make adjustments as needed. And they have an app as well as a website so I can make changes whenever I want.
I’ve also used the Instagram story feature to create a wallpaper as well. Simply save a photo from Pinterest and then copy the photo and paste it using the story text feature. Then you can add other images or texts in different colors. The only downside is that if you leave the story area and go back, you have to create an entirely new wallpaper.
Silence Notifications
I can’t be the only one that detests the little notifications all over the phone. It’s distracting and it sometimes stresses me out. Most of the notifications on the phone aren’t important anyway. I made sure to turn off all notifications except messages, phone calls, and reminders. Because anything else just gets in the way. I don’t need to know when someone uploads a YouTube video or Instagram photo. Or be notified for every email that I have. Honestly, I go as far as muting group messages if there’s too much going on within them.
Basically, if you want a little more peace in your life, do yourself a favor and go to your settings to turn off any notifications that aren’t priority. If you’ve never done this before it will be a weird transition, but after getting used to it you’ll find it easier to focus and take charge of what you want to do with your time.
