My Current Morning Essentials for a Productive Day

After my routine being thrown off this year between gyms closing and working from home every other week, I think I’m finally starting to get a hold on my new normal. For the longest time, my morning’s have set the pace for the rest of the day. And it feels good to have that consistency back.

When I manage to wake up on time (well rested I might add) and get through the morning with all of my essentials, I end up having a much more positive and productive day. And who wouldn’t want that?

As you could imagine, with my routine being thrown off, my days had been less than productive. Especially at a time when I feel like I needed to be working towards clear set goals.

I needed my routine back. And more importantly I needed to have my morning essentials to feel like me again and be back on my game.

My morning essentials are really just my must haves every morning that make me FEEL good in my body, mind, and spirit. They make me more focused, happy and calm. And because of that I’m able to be a better partner, friend, and entrepreneur.

It’s as simple as this: If I make space in the morning to fill my own cup first, I’m much better equipped to help others and pour into them as well.

So here are my morning essentials, my must haves, my cup fillers to start the day with a little bit more energy and a lotta bit more zen.

Quiet Time and Being Present

Every morning I like to give myself a few minutes to mentally prep for the day. That includes just relaxing, checking the tasks that I have for the day, my emails and messages, and just seeing how I feel that morning.

If I don’t do this, I tend to feel unorganized and unprepared for the day. In the past, I’ve tried keeping a bullet journal for all of this but I find it hard to return to a book for all of my notes and to do’s. So now I use different apps on my phone like these Self Care Apps You Should Have on Your Phone and 5 Apps To Keep Your Life Organized.

These apps help me take some time to be present and feel the state that my mind and body are in. Of, course I don’t use all the apps every morning, but I choose one or two that I’m most drawn to in the moment.

Protein Oatmeal for Breakfast

For the past year I’ve been eating oatmeal for breakfast. It’s become a staple and for some reason I have yet to get tired of it. It’s probably because I switch the toppings often given the fruit season. Peaches, berries, apples. There’s so many options to choose from.

Every once in a while I do change it up and eat eggs and a bagel for breakfast, but then I’m right back eating my oatmeal. It keeps me satisfied for hours and it just tastes really great.

If you want to know all of the ways I make protein oatmeal I wrote about my top 3 favorite ways here.

Warming Up My Body

Sometimes I hop on my yoga mat, other times I don’t, but either way I make sure to warm up my body and feel good before I start my day. A nice 5 – 10 minute stretch is just enough to get the blood flowing and feel loose and light.

Whenever I do have time to do a yoga flow in the morning, I love doing a sun salutation because it gives me a really nice full body stretch. But even if you don’t want to do any specific yoga poses, simply try giving your muscles a nice stretch in the morning and see if it doesn’t make you feel better overall.

Cleansing and Rejuvenating

I do my best to wash my face every morning and make sure I’m put together. Taking care of my skin and dedicating a few minutes to do my make up, even if it’s just my eyebrows, is my way of self care.

I used to be very insecure about my skin. I had tiny little bumps all over my T- zone as well as hormonal acne on my cheeks since I was 12. But for the past 2 years I’ve been using acne.org and it’s the only thing that has kept my skin clear this long.

I do my best to keep up with my cleansing routine every morning and if it’s the weekend I do my make up too. It’s important for me to do what makes me feel just as good on the outside as I feel on the inside.

Clearing the Space Around Me

I don’t know about you but I work better when I’m in a clean, well taken care of environment. Not only that, but if the space around me has a nice aesthetic that’s even better.

My current workspace has pillows, decorative pieces, a nice throw, a faux for rug, and a clipboard calendar. Now I know that may seem like a little much, but I work better when the space around me gives off a zen vibe. It helps me to be more focus and creative. And as a blogger, that’s a necessity.

Now what about you? What are your morning essentials to start your day?
